Scott Trust Foundation, owner of the Newsroom archiveguardian.co.uk On 3 November 2004 the legal ownership of the archive collection held by the Newsroom, Guardian and Observer archive and visitor centre was transferred to Guardian Media Group's charitable body, the Scott Trust Foundation (formerly the Guardian Foundation). The Scott Trust Foundation is registered as a charity in England, number 1027893. As owner and a charitable body, the Foundation protects the existing archive collection, and all future additions, from any potential future sale or dispersal. The Foundation will continue the work of acquiring, maintaining and promoting archival material from GNL and personal and institutional donors in line with the archive acquisition policy. The day-to-day management of the material continues to be carried out by the Newsroom's archivists, in GNL's purpose built archive facility. 'Securing the future of GNL's archival heritage is key to our aspirations to promote and preserve the history of the Guardian, The Observer and guardian.co.uk at the Newsroom. The Scott Trust Foundation, as formal owner of the archive, will strengthen the archive, exhibition and education programmes that the Newsroom carries out so successfully' says Liz Forgan, chair of the Scott Trust. Since opening in 2002 the Newsroom has acquired approximately 800 archival accessions (at April 2006) that tell the story of the Guardian, The Observer and guardian.co.uk. As well as corporate records, the Newsroom holds personal archives such as the collections of political correspondent Nora Beloff, photographer Jane Bown, Guardian editor WP Crozier, financial editor Richard Fry, and cartoonist Bill Papas, and oral history interviews with over 100 staff from the newspapers. General information on the archive collections available for research is available online at guardian.co.uk/newsroom where you can also search our online catalogue. Original documents can be consulted in the reading room at the Newsroom and are regularly featured in the Newsroom's programme of exhibitions.
